The Healing Power of Himalayan Singing Bowls with Annie Ridgway
At Lakshmi Sound Sanctuary, one of the most beloved instruments in my healing toolkit is the Himalayan Singing Bowl. These ancient bowls, steeped in tradition and wisdom, offer a deeply calming and transformative experience. Whether you're attending a group sound bath or receiving a one-on-one treatment, the unique vibrations of Himalayan bowls can gently restore harmony to the body, mind, and spirit.
What are Himalayan Singing Bowls?
Himalayan Singing Bowls, also known as Tibetan bowls, are traditionally hand-hammered metal instruments crafted from a blend of sacred metals. When played with a mallet or striker, they produce rich harmonic overtones and resonant vibrations that can be felt as much as they are heard. Each bowl has a voice of its own — some high and ethereal, others deep and grounding.
These bowls have been used for centuries in meditation, spiritual practice, and healing rituals throughout the Himalayan regions of Nepal, India, and Tibet.
The Benefits of Himalayan Singing Bowls in Sound Therapy
Sound therapy works on the principle that everything in the universe, including our bodies, is in a state of vibration. When our natural frequencies become disrupted—due to stress, illness, or emotional trauma—dis-ease can manifest. The pure tones and frequencies of the singing bowls
help re-align and harmonise our internal vibrations.
Deep Relaxation
The bowls induce a meditative, trance-like state that helps release tension, calm the nervous system, and promote deep rest.
Balancing the Energy Body
Their tones interact with our chakras and subtle energy systems, gently clearing blockages and restoring energetic flow.
Emotional Release & Mental Clarity
Many people report profound emotional shifts and a sense of lightness after a session. The mind quiets, and new perspectives can emerge.
Pain Relief & Physical Healing
The bowls’ vibrations penetrate deep into the body’s tissues, aiding circulation and cellular regeneration.
This makes them supportive for relieving muscular tension, headaches, and chronic pain.
Spiritual Connection
For many, the bowls open a doorway to inner stillness and a sense of connection to something greater — whether that be spirit, source, or the self.
Some of the Key Benefits
How I use Himalayan Singing Bowls in My Practice
In my sessions at Lakshmi Sound Sanctuary, I work intuitively with a range of Himalayan Singing Bowls — placing them on and around the body, allowing the sound to envelop and penetrate through every layer of being. Each bowl has been carefully selected for its tone and vibrational quality, offering a personalised experience based on what each client needs in the moment.
The bowls may be used on their own or in combination with other instruments such as crystal bowls, voice, gongs, and chimes — creating a full spectrum soundscape that supports holistic healing.
